NISSAN Airbag Recall

NISSAN is recalling over 3 million Cars/Trucks in the U.S. due to the front airbag may not deploy in a crash. This recall will affect the 2013-2016 Nissan Altima, 2013-2017 Pathfinder, 2014-2017 Rogue, 2015-2016 Murano, Infinity QX50 and QX60, Infinity JX35 and 2014-2016 NV200 Taxi (including Chevy City Express) Owners will recieve notification of the recall with in the next 60 days or so.

Honda & Acura Air Bag Recall

Honda Motor Co. plans to recall another 273,000 Honda and Acura vehicles because of an air bag problem that can kill drivers. It also will inspect an additional 603,000 vehicles to see whether the same defective parts were used in repairing autos that have been in accidents. Honda said it doesn't know how many of those vehicles might have been repaired with the defective parts. In the recalled vehicles, from the 2001 through 2003 model years, the driver's side air bag can deploy with too much force in an accident, causing a metal part that holds and channels explosive propellant to rupture that are causing the injuries. 18 injuries and two deaths have been caused by these faulty air bags. Honda has had four previous recalls over the same issue, and the latest recall raised the total to more than 2.5 million vehicles in the U.S. The latest recall now includes certain 2001 and 2002 Accord, 2001 through 2003 Civic, 2001 through 2003 Odyssey, 2002 and 2003 CR-V, 2003 Pilot, 2002 and 2003 Acura 3.2 TL and 2003 Acura 3.2 CL vehicles.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened a formal safety investigation into fire dangers of the Volt. This move came after the agency replicated an incident from last May in which a Volt battery caught fire three weeks after going through a safety crash test. In three tests last week, technicians damaged the Volt batteries in a similar way; one battery caught fire, and two showed signs of overheating. NHTSA said it had no reports of fires from real-world crashes. And the agency said in a statement: "NHTSA continues to believe that electric vehicles have incredible potential to save consumers money at the pump, help protect the environment, create jobs and strengthen national security by reducing our dependence on foreign oil." General Motors said in a statement it was working with NHTSA on additional testing and also was monitoring all the Volts on the road. With its OnStar emergency communications system, the company said it "knows in real time about any crash significant enough to potentially compromise battery integrity."
NHTSA offered some advice for current owners of electric cars involved in accidents. Exit the vehicle carefully if possible just as in a gasoline-powered car, which of course also poses fire danger in a crash. Emergency responders should take note if a vehicle is electric and disconnect the battery pack if possible. Tow-truck operators and salvage yards should store damaged electrics outside, not inside a closed building. All fires in the NHTSA tests ignited weeks after the initial damage.

Camaro ZL1

Chevrolet chose to resurrect the Monster of all Camaro's the ZL-1. Chevrolet is estimating that its supercharged and intercooled 6.2-liter LSA V8 engine will put out around 550 horsepower and 550 pound-feet of torque. That power will be sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission using a dual-disc clutch that's necessary to properly harness all those horses. There's also a dual-mode exhaust system that alters the sound level and character in response to engine rpm. Chevy's goal was to build a Camaro intended to reach optimal lap times on top road-racing circuits and excellent driving dynamics on the street. The 2012 Camaro ZL1 will be fitted with a new electric power steering system and Magnetic Ride Control that will offer both Tour and Sport modes. Brembo brakes measuring 14.6-inch in the front (with six-piston calipers) and 14.4-inch at the rear (with four-piston calipers) bring it all back down from speed.there's an updated body kit to differentiate the ZL1 from other Camaro's. Most notable are the redesigned fascia that features a front splitter, vertical fog lamps and air intakes designed for brake cooling. There's also a new aluminum hood with a raised, satin black-finish carbon fiber insert that uses a unique air extractor that is said to increase downforce by directing oncoming air over the car. There's also a spoiler at the rear of the car and new 20-inch aluminum wheels fitted with specially developed Goodyear Supercar F2 tires.Chevrolet promises to have the Camaro ZL1 on dealer lots in the beginning of 2012, and it will be available in any color offered on the Camaro.

Car Salesman Kills Customer

A Pennsylvania car salesman turned himself in to police after a test drive of a Mitsubishi Lancer ended with a passenger’s death. The Salesman was charged with homicide by vehicle, driving under the influence of a controlled substance, reckless endangerment and driving at an unsafe speed in the death of customer. The salesman instructed the customer to pull over and let him drive. He started driving recklessly at speeds of up to 90 mph, when he swerved to avoid hitting an oncoming truck and hit an embankment and both were ejected from the car. It later emerged that he was intoxicated at the time of the crash.

Porsche recalling 1,700 911's

- Porsche is recalling about 1,700 of its 911s from 2010-11 because wheel hubs may wear prematurely, resulting in a compromised wheel-retention system that could lead to a crash, the automaker told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Porsche said the 911 Turbo, 911 Turbo S, the 911 GT3 and GT3 RS, and the GT2 RS equipped with the center locking wheel and hub assembly were affected. Dan Engelman, a spokesman for Porsche Cars North America, said he was unaware of any accidents relating to the condition.

Toyota Motor Corp.- secretly bought vehicles it found with speed-control defects to hide unintended-acceleration problems from safety regulators and the public,(FUDJULATED) a revised lawsuit claims. The repurchase transactions included strict confidentiality agreements barring consumers from disclosing the problem to anyone and from suing the automaker, according to the amended class-action complaint. The new complaint also cites internal company records documenting instances in which Toyota technicians or service managers replicated speed-control problems like those reported by customers. And it says the company's confirmation of at least one clearcut case of sudden unintended acceleration was concealed rather than reported to federal auto safety regulators. The enlarged lawsuit, now more than 700 pages long plus hundreds of pages of attached exhibits, was filed on Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Santa Ana, California It builds on a case consolidated over the summer from dozens of consumers and businesses claiming economic losses, including diminished vehicle resale values, stemming from complaints of Toyota cars and trucks racing out of control.

Do you recognize the symbol here? It lights up in your instrument panel and looks like a U-shaped pictograph with treads and an exclamation point in the middle. Do you understand what it means now? If you guessed a low tire-pressure warning, you are right. If you didn’t recognize the symbol, that’s also understandable because one out of three drivers do not, according to Schrader, a company that makes tire pressure monitoring systems. The warning for the TPMS lights up when one or more of your vehicle’s tires is 25% below the manufacturer’s recommended pressure. The system is now required on all vehicles starting with the 2008 model year. The issue here seems to be that the public hasn’t been properly educated on the warning symbol, which is supposed to be “idiot proof” and understandable across a wide variety of cultures and languages. Yet 46% of drivers couldn’t figure out that the icon represents a tire and 14% thought the symbol represented another problem with the vehicle entirely, according to Schrader. As we said earlier in the week, properly inflated tires are vitally important to your safety. Low pressure will affect your braking, acceleration, stability, cornering and fuel economy. The government instituted the TPMS mandate after the Bridgestone/Firestone tire failures on the Ford Explorer in 2000, a controversy that was partly attributed to inadequately inflated tires.

Chinas 62 Mile Traffic Jam

BEIJING : Thousands of vehicles were tied up in a 62-mile traffic jam leading to Beijing that has lasted NINE DAYS. The Beijing-Tibet expressway slowed to a crawl on August 14 due to a spike in traffic by cargo-bearing heavy trucks heading to the capital, and road work. The jam between Beijing and Jining city had given birth to a mini-economy selling stranded drivers water and food at insane prices.

On 20 January 2009, Fiat S.p.A and Chrysler LLC announced that they were going to form a global alliance. Under the terms of the agreement, Fiat would take a 20% stake in Chrysler and gain access to its North American dealer network in exchange for providing Chrysler with the platform to build smaller, more fuel-efficient vehicles in the US and reciprocal access to Fiat's global distribution network.
The deal is the latest maneuver by Fiat's CEO,Sergio Marchionne, who has pulled the Italian company back from the brink of collapse since taking over in 2004. Marchionne has been named CEO of the "New" Chrysler, and Jim Press, who has been with Chrysler since 2007, will probably be in charge of day-to-day operations of the company as Deputy CEO when Marchionne is in Italy.
