Happy Birthday Camaro

The Chevrolet Camaro manufactured by Chevrolet, classified as a pony car and some versions also as a muscle car. It went on sale on September 29, 1966, for the 1967 model year and was designed as a competing model to the Ford Mustang. The car shared its platform and major components with the Pontiac Firebird.
Four distinct generations of the Camaro were developed before production ended in 2002. The nameplate was revived again on a concept car that evolved into the fifth-generation Camaro, production started on March 16, 2009.

Before any official announcement, reports began running during April 1965 within the automotive press that Chevrolet was preparing a competitor to the Ford Mustang, code-named Panther. On June 21, 1966, around 200 automotive journalists received a telegram from General Motors stating, "...Please save noon of June 28 for important SEPAW meeting. Hope you can be on hand to help scratch a cat. Details will follow...(signed) John L. Cutter – Chevrolet Public Relations – SEPAW Secretary." The following day, the same journalists received another General Motors telegram stating, "Society for the Eradication of Panthers from the Automotive World will hold first and last meeting on June 28...(signed) John L. Cutter – Chevrolet Public Relations SEPAW Secretary." These telegrams puzzled the automotive journalists.

On June 28, 1966, General Motors held a live press conference in Detroit’s Statler-Hilton Hotel. It would be the first time in history that 14 cities were hooked up in real time for a press conference via telephone lines. Chevrolet General Manager Pete Estes started the news conference stating that all attendees of the conference were charter members of the Society for the Elimination of Panthers from the Automotive World and that this would be the first and last meeting of SEPAW. Estes then announced a new car line, project designation XP-836, with a name that Chevrolet chose in keeping with other car names beginning with the letter C such as the Corvair, Chevelle, Chevy II, and Corvette. He claimed the name, "suggests the comradeship of good friends as a personal car should be to its owner" and that "to us, the name means just what we think the car will do... Go!" The new Camaro name was then unveiled. Automotive press asked Chevrolet product managers, "What is a Camaro?" and were told it was "a small, vicious animal that eats Mustangs."

Datsun 240Z

The Nissan S30 sold in Japan as the Nissan Fairlady Z and in other markets as the Datsun 240Z. (1970-1973) The Datsun 240Z 1970 through mid-1971 model year was referred to as the Series I. These early cars had many subtle but notable features differing from later cars. The most easily visible difference is that these early cars had a chrome "240Z" badge on the sail pillar, and two horizontal vents in the rear hatch below the glass molding providing flow through ventilation. In mid-1971, for the Series II 240Z cars, the sail pillar emblems were restyled with just the letter "Z" placed in a circular vented emblem, and the vents were eliminated from the hatch panel of the car. Design changes for the U.S. model 240Z occurred throughout production, including interior modifications for the 1972 model year, and a change in the location of the bumper over-riders, as well as the addition of some emission control devices and the adoption of a new style of emissions reducing (and performance compromising) carburetors for the 1973 model year. The 1970 models were introduced in October 1969, received the L24 2.4 liter engine and a 4-speed manual. A less common 3-speed automatic transmission was optional from 1971 on, and had a "Nissan Full Automatic" badge. Engine: 146 cui L24 I-6, cast-iron block, alloy head, seven-bearing crankshaft, 9.0:1 compression; Maximum recommended engine speed 7000 rpm. Bore: 3.27 in Stroke: 2.90 with 151 hp at 5600 rpm Torque: 146 lbf·ft at 4400 rpm. Transmission: Four-speed manual, five-speed manual, or three-speed automatic (after September 1970) weight: 2,355 lb Top speed: 125 mph 0 to 60 mph 8.0 secs.

2011 McLaren MP4-12C

The 2011 McLaren MP4-12C designed and manufactured by Mclaren Automotive. The MP4-12C will feature a carbon fiber composite chassis, and will be powered by a mid-mounted McLaren M838T 3.8-litre V8 twin-turbo engine developing approximately 592 hp and around 443 lb·ft of torque. It has a redline of 8,500 rpm, with 80% of torque available at just 2,000 rpm. The car will make use of a Formila-1 sourced technologies such as "brake steer ", where the inside rear wheel is braked during fast cornering to reduce understeer. Power will be transmitted to the wheels through a 7-speed Seamless Shift dual-clutch gearbox equipped with "Pre-Cog", which allows the driver to pre-select the next gear by half-pulling the gear shift behind the steering wheel, which allows the transmission to execute faster gear changes.
The MP4-12C will be sold at a price of $229,000 US. The MP4-12C is the first production car wholly designed and built by McLaren since theMcLaren F1, which for a long time held the record for the fastest production car in the world. As with the McLaren F1, carbon fibre (Carbon MonoCell) is used extensively in the vehicle to minimize weight. The MP4-12C will weigh only 2,866 lb. The chassis is based around an F1 style one-piece carbon fibre tub, weighing only 80 kg (176 lb).
McLaren have stated the MP4-12C can accelerate from 0 to 124 mph in 8.9 seconds. The car will have a top speed in excess of 200 mph and will be able to brake from 124 mph to a complete stop in under five seconds. It is expected the 12C will complete the standing quarter mile in slightly less than 11 seconds.

Honda recalling the Pilot

Honda Motor Co. is recalling nearly 347,000 examples of its Pilot crossovers worldwide for a potential issue with the front seatbelts. Honda says the recall is for 2009-2011 model year Pilot models built in Alabama, is "due to a manufacturing error on a small number of front seat belts, where the stitching connecting the lap section of the belt to the outboard anchor webbing may be incomplete or missing." The affected seatbelts could disconnect from the anchor webbing in an accident, increasing the risk of an injury.Honda will contact Pilot owners in early October and will inspect the stitching on front seatbelts of the recalled vehicles. Assemblies will be replaced free of charge if Honda deems them to be defective. Honda says almost 311,000 of the recalled Pilot models are registered in the U.S., 10,000 in Canada, 8,000 in Mexico and the rest in other countries. Fortunately, Honda says no injuries or deaths have been reported related to this issue.

2001-2005 BMW 3 Series recall

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced that BMW is recalling 241,000 3 Series models for faulty rear tail lamps. According to NHTSA, certain 2002-2005 325i, 325xi, 330i and 330xi models built between September 1, 2001 and March 1 2005 may experience increased resistance at the electrical contacts. This resistance may eventually lead to the failure of tail light, brake light or turning indicator lamps over time. That failure could impede a driver's ability to warn other motorists of his or her intentions, potentially leading to an accident.Previously, BMW issued a technical service bulletin concerning a certain eight-pin connector which would overheat and melt under extreme electrical load. BMW dealers corrected the issue by adding additional grounding to the circuit. It's unclear whether this remedy will also be applied to the recall. BMW dealers will repair the electrical components free of charge once the recall gets underway in October of this year.

Subaru Trezia

The Subaru Trezia hatchback (a Toyota-Subaru collaboration) is a roomy five-door, which closely mirrors the Honda Fit in most every measurement, will be a near spot-on match of the Toyota Verso it's based on, but with an Impreza-style grille slapped on the front clip. Both the Toyota Verso and Subaru Trezia are being sold in Japan now, and both vehicles are destined for Euro showrooms this spring. The Japan Trezia is powered by a choice of a 1.3-liter or a 1.5-liter inline-four cylinder gasoline engine, with an all-wheel-drive option which will likely be the turbodiesel 1.4-liter. But in Europe the 1.5 will be replaced with a 1.4-liter diesel.

NEVER FORGET

The World Trade Center was a complex of seven buildings featuring the landmark twin towers each 110 stories tall, stood over 1,350 feet. Located in Lower Manhattan, New York City. The complex opened on April 4, 1973, and was destroyed by Terrorist during the September 11 attacks 2001. At the time of their completion, the twin towers were the tallest buildings in the world, surpassing the Empire State Building, also in Manhattan. The twin 110-story towers used a tube-frame structural design. To gain approval for the project, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey agreed to take over the Hudson & Manhattan Railroad, which became the Port Authority Trans-Hudson (PATH). Groundbreaking for the World Trade Center took place on August 5, 1966. The North Tower (1) was completed in December 1972 and the South Tower (2) was finished in July 1973. The cost for the construction was $400 million. The complex was located in the heart of New York City's downtown financial district and contained 13.4 million square feet. The Windows on the World restaurant was located on the 106th and 107th floors of 1 World Trade Center (the North Tower) while the Top of the World observation deck was located on the 107th floor of 2 World Trade Center (the South Tower). The World Trade Center experienced a fire on February 13, 1975, and a Terrorist bombing on February 26, 1993.
On the morning of September 11, 2001, Al-Qaeda-affiliated hijackers flew two 767 jets into the complex, one into each tower, in a coordinated terrorist attack. After burning for 56 minutes, the South Tower (2) collapsed, followed a half-hour later by the North Tower (1), with the attacks on the World Trade Center resulting in 2,753 deaths. 7 World Trade Center collapsed later in the day and the other buildings, although they did not collapse, had to be demolished because they were damaged beyond repair. The process of cleanup and recovery at the World Trade Center site took eight months.

Ferrari FF

The Ferrari FF which stands for Ferrari Four made its debut at the Geneva Auto Show. The FF features Ferrari’s first all-wheel-drive system, a unique design which is said to weigh 50 percent less than conventional systems, although Ferrari has yet to release detailed specifications. The website for the FF features video of it being tested in snowy conditions in locations ranging from the southernmost tip of Argentina to the French Alps, indicating that it is also the company’s first true four-season car.
Even so, with a front-mounted 651 hp 6.3-liter V12, Ferrari claims a top speed of 208 miles per hour for the FF, which can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds. A host of traction and stability control systems developed in Formula One racing will be standard equipment.
The four-seat, squared-off hatchback is Ferrari’s answer to the growing number of exotic four-door coupes on the market today, such as the Porsche Panamera and Aston Martin Rapide.
